FAQs

What is a Bhaiya Bhabhi Rakhi?

A Bhaiya-Bhabhi Rakhi is a paired rakhi set: one traditional rakhi for your brother's wrist and one lumba rakhi for your bhabhi's bangle. It is sent when a brother is married so that Raksha Bandhan honors the couple together instead of the brother alone.
The two pieces are designed to coordinate in color and material while staying visually distinct: the brother's rakhi is bolder and flatter, and the bhabhi's lumba is finer and has a hanging drop.

What is a Lumba Rakhi?

A lumba rakhi is a rakhi with a hanging tassel or pendant that is tied to a bhabhi's bangle rather than around her wrist. The word lumba means "hanging"; the drop design is what defines it.
The tradition began in Rajasthani and Marwari households, where the sister-in-law is included in the rakhi ceremony as a member of the family in her own right. It is now followed across India, and a lumba is the standard second piece in any Bhaiya Bhabhi Rakhi set.

What is the difference between a lumba rakhi and a normal rakhi?

A normal rakhi ties directly around the wrist and sits flat against the skin. A lumba rakhi loops onto a bangle and hangs off it, with a tassel or decorative drop below the bangle line.
The other difference is who wears it: a normal rakhi goes to a brother, and a lumba goes to a bhabhi. Because a lumba is worn on jewelry rather than skin, it is usually made in heavier, more ornamental styles: Kundan, pearl, meenakari, and bracelet finishes.

How many rakhis come in a Bhaiya Bhabhi Rakhi set?

A Bhaiya-Bhabhi Rakhi set contains two pieces: one rakhi for the brother and one lumba rakhi for the bhabhi. Some sets are sold as a set of 2 lumbas where a sister has more than one bhabhi, and combo packs may add roli, chawal, and a chocolate or sweet.
Check the variant option on each product before ordering, as several designs in this collection are listed as both "Single" and "Set of 2."

How do you tie a lumba rakhi on the bhabhi?

Tie the lumba onto the bangle (chudi or kada) on your bhabhi's wrist, not directly onto her skin. Slip the loop or thread over the bangle, position the drop so the tassel hangs freely, then pull the thread snug so it does not slide.
If she is not wearing bangles that day, the lumba can be tied to a thin thread or metal bangle worn just for the ritual, or fastened around the wrist like a regular rakhi. Both are widely accepted. Tie the lumba immediately after the brother's rakhi, in the same aarti.

Which hand does each rakhi go on?

The brother's rakhi is tied on his right wrist. The bhabhi's lumba rakhi is tied on the bangle on her left wrist.
The right hand is used for the brother because it is traditionally the hand of dharma used for giving, blessing, and performing sacred rites. The lumba goes on the left because it is worn on the bangle, and the left side is associated with receiving blessings. Regional customs vary, so follow your family's practice if it differs.

Why is a rakhi tied to the bhabhi at all?

A rakhi is tied to the bhabhi because in Indian households the sister-in-law is regarded as an equal keeper of the family's bond and prosperity, not as an extension of the brother. Tying a lumba is a sister's way of accepting her as family in her own right.
It carries the most weight when a bhabhi is new to the household or spending Raksha Bandhan away from her own home; being part of the ritual rather than watching it is exactly what the lumba is for.

Can I buy a lumba rakhi for my bhabhi separately?

Yes. Lumba rakhis are sold individually as well as within paired Bhaiya Bhabhi Rakhi sets, so you can send one on its own if your brother already has a rakhi or if you only want to send something for your bhabhi.
Standalone lumba rakhis start from ₹299 in this collection, including floral, tassel, evil eye and bracelet-style designs.

What designs are available in Bhaiya Bhabhi Rakhi?

There are seven main styles in this collection: meenakari (enamel work on metal), kundan (uncut-stone settings), pearl and beadwork, evil eye/nazar designs, 925 sterling silver, devotional rakhis with Radha Krishna, Shiv Shakti or Om motifs, and bracelet-style lumbas that can be worn as jewellery after the festival.
Evil eye and meenakari are the most popular for paired sets because the two pieces match in color while remaining clearly distinct.

How much does a Bhaiya-Bhabhi Rakhi set cost?

Bhaiya Bhabhi Rakhi sets in this collection range from ₹149 to ₹3,799, with most designs between ₹299 and ₹999.
Price is driven by material and craft rather than piece count; a two-piece set is not automatically double the price of a single rakhi. Thread, beadwork, and evil eye sets sit at the lower end; meenakari and kundan in the middle; and 925 silver and bracelet lumbas at the top.
