Jau (Barley Seeds)

Jau (Barley seeds) are extensively used in religious ceremonies. Barley is sowed during the holy Navratru period. It demonstrates development, prosperity and abundance. Barley is planted on the first day of the Navratri. In order to help it grow faster, water is poured every day. And, on the 10th day of this holy period, the shoots grow upto a height of about 3 - 5 inches. After the Navratri Ceremony is done, these seedlings are soaked in water. This religious ceremony symbolizes the connection between and fertility.
